The Difference Between Long Block And Short Block

Cylinders are the parts in which the movement of the piston takes place. They are generally made of

large size and have holes to form a seal with the piston. The number of cylinders holds the power and

size of the engine.

A long block, we usually call it half engine. It include all parts of an engine, except: Starter, alternator, 

booster pump,inlet and exhaust pipes, relay and ignition wires.

A short block, mainly means the crank system. It is consist with the cylinder block, and the crank parts.

Such as the piston rod, crankshaft, timing parts.
